When To Call A Lawyer For Your Tampa Personal Injury Case?

When you’re in an accident caused by the negligence of another person or a business and you’re really hurt, you may be wondering when you should call an attorney.

The answer is call a lawyer after you receive your initial or emergency medical treatment. Always, always, always get the medical treatment you need first. Based on your level of injury, take an ambulance, go to the emergency room or visit an urgent care facility. Have a doctor examine you and obtain the medical tests they need to properly identify your injuries and a path to recovery.

Then, you can call an experienced personal injury attorney, like myself, to discuss your potential case.

There are two reasons why I recommend you proceed in this order. One, your health is the most important aspect. Don’t worry about anything else, including talking to a lawyer, until you’ve had a medical professional exam your injuries and make sure you’re ok (or as “ok” as you can be after an accident).

The second reason has more of a legal component to it. Defense lawyers love to ask questions, like “Who did you call first after an accident?” They want to sow doubt in the minds of jurors who might decide the case at trial and imply that you weren’t that injured because your first thought was about your legal case. You were just out to sue. After all, the argument goes, how injured could you have been if you talked to an attorney before you had the chance to see a doctor?

Seems rather cynical, I know. And, look, I get that for you that’s not the case. You’re trying to figure out how to deal with this ordeal. The way a case is handled from beginning to end matters.

That said, I’m here for you. If you feel that you need to talk right after an accident, then let’s talk. As with any other part of your health after an accident, if you think chatting with me will help calm your anxiety, then go ahead and contact me. We’ll figure out how to address this later. Right now, as I said before, your health is the most important, and that includes your mental health.
